Local MP, Rosie Duffield, Visits The FAR Academy
Recently, the FAR Academy had the pleasure of welcoming Rosie Duffield, MP for Canterbury. During her visit, Rosie met with students and staff, spending time learning about the vital work carried out at the college. She saw first-hand how the FAR Academy supports young people with additional needs, helping them grow in confidence and achieve their potential in a nurturing and understanding environment.
Rosie shared her thoughts following the visit:
“I recently visited the FAR Academy, a full-time independent specialist post-16 college for young people with EHCPs and additional needs, who may struggle with their social, emotional and mental health. This wonderful setting provides practical learning in a safe, holistic and caring environment.
Each of these students is able to access the successful and impressive programmes that the FAR Academy offers because of their Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Unfortunately, the current government is considering abolishing these documents, which provide vital legal protections. Without them, students like those at the FAR Academy, and at other specialist providers, would lose fair and appropriate access to the education they so urgently need.
Over my eight years as your MP, I have campaigned tirelessly for children and young people with SEND and their families, to make sure they can rely on the support available to them. I will continue to call on the Government to ensure that every child receives the education they deserve.”
We are very grateful to Rosie for taking the time to visit and for her ongoing support for young people with SEND. Her words reflect exactly what we believe at the FAR Academy: every student deserves a fair chance, the right support and an education that truly works for them.
