The FAR Academy
The FAR Academy welcomes students from a wide range of backgrounds and identities, and offers a calm, supportive place to continue their education. We are proud to support young people of all genders, sexual orientations, and identities. Our focus is on learners who find mainstream college environments challenging due to mental health needs, neurodivergence, or other barriers to education. Many of our students are autistic, dyslexic, hypermobile, or living with the effects of trauma, depression, or anxiety. Some have been out of education or have faced difficulties gaining qualifications before joining us.
Our team of teachers, support staff, and volunteers work closely together to deliver an engaging curriculum in a safe, caring, and affirming environment. We specialise in supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, particularly those experiencing anxiety or depression, and we are committed to creating a space where LGBTQ+ students feel seen, respected, and supported. We also support students who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), as well as those who would benefit from guidance in applying for one. Young people who have become disengaged from traditional education often regain confidence, motivation, and a sense of belonging in our setting.
We place great importance on ensuring that every student feels safe, respected, and ready to learn, including those who may have experienced discrimination or exclusion elsewhere. Our aim is to help each young person build confidence and skills for the future, achieve meaningful qualifications, and move forward positively towards employment, training, or further education. Our curriculum is varied, rich, and designed to support steady, individual progress.
We are proud members of NATSPEC, the voice of specialist further education.
