Do you need an EHCP to go to The Far Academy?
Yes you do need an EHCP to attend FAR for Post 16 education.
What is an EHCP?
An Education, Health and Care plan ("EHC plan") is a legal document which describes a child or young person's special educational needs, the support they need, and the outcomes they would like to achieve. Read more here.
What are the college hours?
Monday to Wednesday 9.30am to 3pm Thursday 12.45pm to 3pm Friday (Work Experience)
What qualifications can my young person study at The Far Academy?
We have a wide range of qualifications available to study.
  • Functional Skills Maths/English NCFE Entry Level and Level 1/2
  • Creative craft (Construction) NCFE Level 1/2
  • Business Enterprise NCFE Technical Award Level 1/2
  • Photography NCFE Level 1/2
  • PSHE
  • NCFE Art & Design Level 1/2
  • NCFE Graphic Design Level 1/2
  • PE
We can also provide specialised courses such as: Retail, Health care, Teaching assistant, these courses are provided by us and supported by professional teachers. In addition to our current curriculum, we also provide work experience in house (working in our retail shop or teaching assistant) or we can outsource our students to places more suitable for their chosen career.

How easy is it to get to The Far Academy, is there accessible public transport?
Yes we are accessible for students travelling via bus/train.
How old do I have to be to go to The Far Academy?
16 (Year 12).
Do you have to be able to skate to go to The Far Academy?
Not at all! but you will always have the option to learn!
Will I have to do work experience as part of my course?
Work experience can be gained within the FAR college or we can outsource our students to places more suitable for their chosen career.
Is the pastoral support good at The Far Academy?
Our Family Liaison Officer works closely with students and families and is responsible for providing care to pupils, ensuring their safety and dealing with any problems the pupils or families may have. Alongside our SENCo and teaching staff.
