The FAR Academy
The FAR Academy is an independent specialist post-16 college based in Whitstable Kent. We host students from a variety of backgrounds for their college education. We specialise in supporting pupils who have mental health difficulties and find it too hard to manage in a busy mainstream college environment. Our students may have autism, dyslexia, hypermobility, trauma, depression and/or anxiety among other disabilities. A vast majority of students have failed within mainstream education, and may have been out of education for a while.
Many do not have any qualifications and have not passed any exams before they join the FAR. Our team of teachers, teaching assistants, office staff and volunteers work closely together to deliver a college curriculum within a safe and nurturing environment.
Every member of staff recognises the importance of ensuring that students feel safe and valued within the college. We are strongly aware that students need to learn the skills and knowledge to progress to the world of work, and achieve useful qualifications. We work hard to ensure that every pupil reaches their potential. Our pupils are presented with a motivating, rich and broad curriculum to develop their skills.
We are members of Natspec, the voice of specialist further education.
FAR Academy specialises in looking after young people who struggle with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH). Especially anxiety and depression, young people who have and Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) or need support obtaining one. Students who have become disengaged with traditional education thrive at our specialist provision.
